FAQ

Why do I need SPF Sunscreen? Plus

Not sure if you’ve looked up lately, but there’s a big giant ball of fire in the sky. And that tingly feeling on your skin when you go outside? That’s the sun’s UV rays. Space radiation, basically. And SPF sunscreen prevents it from entering your skin. We now know that 90% of skin cancers are attributed to sun damage¹, so there’s no excuses anymore.

Do I need to wear SPF all year round? Plus

If the sun is there, so are its rays. Sun damage is also cumulative. So even when you’re nipping outside for 5 minutes on an overcast day, you’re still soaking them up. We made SLATHER to be super high protective, whilst also moisturising, so it’s all around good gear to whack on your meatsuit all year round.

What about Vitamin D? Plus

Vitamin D is super important. It’s true that you get it from the sun, but you also get it from certain foods and supplements. There’s a lot of conjecture around sunscreen and vitamin D, but plenty of studies have shown daily SPF use doesn’t stop Vitamin D production. An Australian study cited by Harvard University showed no difference in vitamin D between adults randomly assigned to use sunscreen and those assigned a placebo cream¹.

UVA vs UVB? Plus

Ok, so the sun’s firing double barrels at you. There’s two kinds of UV rays. UVA and UVB. UVA rays penetrate deeper in the skin and cause indirect DNA damage, leading to premature aging, tanning, and yes, some skin cancers. They go right through the ozone layer, clouds, and even windows.

UVB rays don’t go as deep, and instead damage the outermost layer of your skin. These are the guys most likely to turn you full lobster mode after spending too long at the crease in a backyard bash without any screen on. They’re also the main culprit when it comes to skin cancer. The ozone layer does a good job of filtering out UVB rays, but not all of them. Especially in Australia.

Broad spectrum sunscreens, like SLATHER, protect you from BOTH types of UV rays.

How much SPF should I wear? Plus

If the sun can see it, the sun will try to burn it. So make sure you SLATHER up any part of your body that’s hangin’ out in view. And don’t forget to RE-SLATHER every 2 hours, more so if you’re swimming or sweating it up.

What makes SLATHER different? Plus

Firstly, we just want you to use sunscreen. 2 out of 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer before 70¹. Fewer than 3 in 10 Australians use sunscreen regularly², with males being the biggest offenders in general. Not enough Aussies are screening up. Especially blokes. And it’s killing us. We made SLATHER to be a highly protective, broad spectrum, easy to apply, moisturising sunscreen with a fun look and voice to try to make sunscreen more appealing. So we can all go outside and enjoy the sun without dying from it.

Who is SLATHER? Plus

We’re a bunch of creatives and product designers from around Australia who came together to make SLATHER. We’re 100% independent and locally owned.

Is SLATHER broad spectrum? Plus

Hell yes. SLATHER protects you from both UVA and UVB rays, the leading cause of skin damage and skin cancer.

Is SLATHER waterproof? Plus

Technically, no sunscreen is ‘waterproof’. All sunscreen will eventually wash out via water or sweat, so if you’re having a dip or running around in the sun, make sure you reapply more often.

Is SLATHER vegan friendly? Plus

Absolutely. So is the sunscreen.

Is your packaging environmentally friendly? Plus

Yes. In the event that you don’t want to hoard your SLATHER packaging because it looks so good, both the tube and the cap can be recycled.

Can I cancel or edit my order once it’s been placed? Plus

Possibly. We get very excited when someone buys SLATHER, and work quickly to get it to you as soon as possible. There’s also a really good banh mi place near the post office which gives us an excuse to go there. But if you need to change something, we’ll do everything we can - please contact us at hello@slather.com.au.

How much is shipping? Plus

For orders over $55, it’s on us. Free. Nada. Zilch. For orders under $55, there’s a flat fee of $8.95. If an incorrect address is entered at checkout or your item isn’t collected from the post office and sent back to us, basically anything leading to a ‘redelivery’, there’s a $10 cost.

How long will my order take to arrive? Plus

We’ll start processing for dispatch as soon as we receive card authorisation and verification. You’ll receive a Shipping Confirmation at the time of dispatch so you can track your package like an FBI agent tailing a suspect. We use Aus Post for delivery, and their standard delivery times are 3-6 business days. Please contact hello@slather.com.au for any further questions or if you have special order needs.
